About

Photography has been a great interest of John's for many years now. John is self-taught and loves reading books by other photographers to gain knowledge and inspiration. Books fascinate him, not only because they are a constant and accessible source of information but they also give authors the means to express and exhibit their skills to people they may never meet. The same can be said for the Internet and John has compiled a list of his favourite large format photography websites on this site, which he regularly visits to appreciate the work and vision of other artists.

John lives in the UK, which he believes offers some of the best scenery in the World. Being able to escape to a place of beauty is a necessary release from the pressures of life. Landscape photography is of a particular interest to John as he is very close to nature and loves to appreciate what is all around us without taking it for granted.

It is not always easy to see the beauty in this world but photography has enabled me to look closer at the magnificence we often overlook. When I am looking around for what may make a photograph, I see nature and appreciate it more than I did before, which I find invaluable. For me photography is about being creative and capturing a moment in time that perhaps no-one else has seen so that they can also appreciate that moment for years to come.

John is competent with a variety of different camera formats from 35mm, Medium Format, digital and also large format. He uses all formats for landscape photography depending on the image he is trying to achieve. All of the images displayed on this website have been made using a large format field camera. John's first choice of camera for landscape photography is his large format field camera, as the nature of the camera allows for more control and contemplation in his artistic approach. In the current climate of digital photography taking a step back in technology may not seem like good sense. However, John firmly believes that photography is about finding your own direction; doing what you enjoy and photographing what you love with cameras you are comfortable with. Only then will your passion be reflected in the images you make.

Photographing the landscape is such a passion and is a sense of enjoyment for me. I hope that, by sharing my photographs with you, you are able to acquire some of that pleasure too. Thank you for looking at my website. John Greenwood BA Hons, BSc Hons.
